An upcycled material is simply a material that is reused. When you use the fabric of one garment to make another, you are upcycling. The materials used do not undergo major transformations and are reused almost as they are.

It’s environmentally responsible for two reasons:

– The first is obvious, but reuse means not wasting resources or energy to produce the material that will be needed. Since the tissues are not doomed to die, there is also a reduction in the harmful effects of burying waste or CO2 in the atmosphere when the tissues are burned.

– Secondly, upcycled materials are often recovered locally, thus avoiding the ecological footprint of transportation.
